My passion is for building design systems. The Lanphear Book introduces a complex typographic system to denote various authors and written content, from biography, annotation, letters & e-mails, tables, and family trees. The entire publication is defined by a set of rules to harness the chaos of the page.

Where there is typographic restraint, there is also opportunity for unbridled typographic experimentation. The letter-form can be dismantled and re-arranged to generate new meaning. Jazz and hip-hop alike are brought under a single typographic system to visualize the attitude and character of sound.

Throughout my work I attempt to find a balance between organization and experimentation; convention and innovation.
